Do you consider yourself a role model for the youth of today?

Yes. The youth of today, however, disagree.

When is it your birthday?

April 10. For gifts, I'd rather you make something than buy something … it's cheaper, plus it's from the heart.

How long have you been a musician?

I wrote my first song in 1977: "VJ-8756," a theme song for my mom's license plate. I started to show improvement around 1999.

Which of your recordings is the best?

Each one has its moments, but I'll go with 'Love Conquers Alda' since that's the one that makes me the most money. Almost $100 to date!

Why do you make so few copies of your releases?

I prefer that fewer people adore me with greater intensity.

What will you choose as your last meal?

Are you implying that I am going to be executed? Hm. *pause* I'll have the seitan fajitas and a Stella Artois.

Who are your songwriting influences?

Buddy Holly, Dion, John Lennon, John Sebastian, John Fogerty, Bob Welch, Glenn Tilbrook, Michael Penn, Tanya Donelly, Kitty Craft, Laura Watling.

What song do you wish you had written?

The one that apparently would have made me a lot of money.

Do you believe in the supernatural?

Absolutely. If the ghost of Andy Gibb doesn't quit asking me to write hit songs for him, I'm going to be in the market for an exorcist!

What is your view on reincarnation?

A psychic told me that I was a deer in a past life. Unfortunately he subsequently reminded me that I'm a human in this one.

What do you do for money?

I work as a copywriter; that is, a professional liar.

Why do you swear so much in your songs?

I find that regular words sometimes just don't do the job.

Where have your travels taken you?

Primarily California and Mexico.

What celebrity do you want to go out with?

I took an online quiz to determine just that thing and was surprised to find it's Halle Berry!

Which superhero would you be if you could?

I do occasionally imagine myself to be Green Lantern.

What's one thing you could not live without?

Oxygen. The Oxygen Network, I mean.

Is it true you have a favorite blue sweater that you call Bluey?

No, that is not true.

Do you have any hobbies?

Yes, I am a connoisseur of fine winos, with a full cellar to choose from.

What one cd would you take to a desert island?

Depends on the island. Like, is the desert subtropical or polar? My mood would be totally different.

Why does water freeze on a bridge before it does on solid ground?

I always forget why that is. Maybe you could find the answer on a science website.

What was your fastest marathon?

In 2001 I ran 3:21:18. Those were the days.

Do you have any advice for beginning runners?

Get good shoes and moisture-wicking clothing. And for fun, jump over benches and fire hydrants like you're a track star.

Are you a musician or a runner?

That's like asking me if I'm black or if I'm a senator. I'm a black senator.

Do you like sports?

I enjoy playing badminton and tennis, especially with attractive or enigmatic rivals.

What is your drug of choice?

I'm addicted to "Intervention" on A&E.

Will you go to a movie with me?

Yes, if by "movie" you mean "sex tape you're not even aware you're participating in."

Will you go to prom with me?

That seems inappropriate, but yes, I will.

Why do you look different in every photo?

I continually revise my image to fool the media.

How famous are you?

Hard to say. Not too long ago I saw the guy who played J. Peterman on 'Seinfeld' and he looked at me like I was the famous one.
